Does light drinking prolong life?
A 2023 meta-analysis of 107 cohort studies, involving about 4.8 million people, found no statistically significant mortality reduction with low-volume drinking after adjustments for biases. Observational comparisons can be distorted when former drinkers are grouped with lifelong abstainers. This does not prove identical effects for every disease, but it does not establish a longevity benefit. 1
