Boron

Boron is a trace element found in fruit, vegetables, nuts and legumes. It is not officially classed as essential for humans.

Does boron raise testosterone?

In a seven-week study, 10 male bodybuilders received 2.5 mg daily and nine received placebo. Boron added no significant benefit for testosterone, lean mass or strength; improvements occurred in both groups. 1

Testosterone SupportToo little evidence

This small trial does not support a testosterone-boosting claim. 1

Can it improve concentration?

Three older feeding studies compared low and higher boron intakes in healthy older adults. Attention and memory tasks favored the higher intake in some comparisons. That does not establish that adding boron to an ordinary diet improves everyday concentration. 2

Focus And AttentionToo little evidence

Suggestive feeding-study findings, not established supplementation benefits. 2

What do bone studies tell us?

A 2024 study of 66 Jordanian postmenopausal women with osteoporosis linked higher dietary boron with higher bone density. It observed diets and patient records rather than assigning supplements, so it cannot show that boron prevents fractures. 3

Bone densityToo little evidence

An association does not demonstrate treatment efficacy. 3

Could it ease joint discomfort?

A placebo-controlled trial in 60 adults reported less knee discomfort after two weeks of calcium fructoborate. The study involved the ingredient supplier and was short; it leaves long-term benefit and generalization to other boron forms uncertain. 4

Joint MobilityToo little evidence

A preliminary symptom result, not evidence of joint repair. 4
