Does it lower blood pressure?
A review of 19 controlled trials in adults found an average 2.2 mmHg reduction in diastolic pressure, the lower number in a blood-pressure reading. Systolic pressure and a measure of blood-vessel dilation did not improve significantly. Results varied substantially between studies. 1
The lower blood-pressure number improved modestly, while the upper number did not show a clear benefit across the trials. 1
What changed in antioxidant studies?
A 2021 analysis found lower malondialdehyde and oxidized LDL, both markers of fat oxidation. High-sensitivity CRP also fell, but standard CRP and white-blood-cell counts did not change significantly. These are laboratory outcomes rather than evidence of fewer diseases. 2
Some oxidation markers improved; the clinical importance of those changes remains uncertain. 2
Inflammation results differed between markers, with a benefit for high-sensitivity CRP but not all measures. 2
