Did an allergy trial find benefit?
A 2005 double-blind randomized trial assigned 75 people with allergic rhinitis to Tinospora extract or placebo for eight weeks. Sneezing, nasal discharge, blockage and itching improved more with the extract. It was reported as well tolerated during the trial. 1 2
This is a preliminary symptom signal. One small, short trial cannot settle effectiveness across products or exclude the liver injury documented subsequently. 1 2
What do the liver reports show?
A retrospective study from 13 Indian centers described 43 patients with liver injury associated with giloy use. Such a selected case series cannot tell us the risk per user, but it documents clinically serious events rather than a theoretical laboratory concern. 3
