Histidine
Histidine is an essential amino acid that has to come from food. The body uses it, among other things, to make histamine.
Also listed as L-Histidine
Can it improve insulin resistance?
In a 12-week trial, 100 women with obesity and metabolic syndrome received 4 g daily or placebo. Histidine improved an estimate of insulin resistance and several body measurements. This finding concerns a specific population and laboratory measures, not prevention of diabetes. 1
The researchers also explored inflammation signaling in fat cells. That offers a possible explanation for further study, while the clinical result still needs independent confirmation. 1
