Methylene Blue
Methylene blue is a synthetic blue dye first made in the 19th century. It is used as a medicine for certain blood disorders and as a stain in laboratories.
A promising experiment, still an early one
A randomized trial studied a single oral dose in 26 healthy adults and found changes in brain activity during attention and memory tasks. Memory retrieval improved within the methylene-blue group, but the comparison of change between groups did not reach statistical significance. This preserves an interesting research signal without establishing an everyday memory benefit. 1
