Ubiquinol
Ubiquinol is the reduced form of coenzyme Q10, a fat-soluble compound the body makes itself and uses for energy production in mitochondria.
What the fatigue trial measured
A 12-week placebo-controlled trial analyzed 62 adults receiving 100 mg or 150 mg ubiquinol daily, or placebo. Both active groups reported less fatigue and sleepiness after mental tasks. The participants had mild fatigue lasting one to six months; the result does not establish treatment for chronic fatigue syndromes. 1
A blood-test finding, not disease prevention
In a German study, 53 healthy men received 150 mg daily for 14 days. The enzyme GGT, investigated as an indirect oxidative-stress marker, decreased. There was no placebo group in this supplementation comparison, and another liver enzyme did not change. These findings leave disease prevention and longer-term benefit unanswered. 2
